Horror 101 – Episode 109: Waxwork (1988)

Would you like a closer look?

Last show we featured April Fool’s Day from 1986, starring Deborah Foreman. She’s going to be featured again in this 1988 film which also stars Zach Galligan from Gremlins and the legendary David Warner. There have been countless House of Wax type horror films since the dawn of cinema. In 1988 writer/director Anthony Hickox gave us his very first feature film which was his take on this subgenre. It was a hidden gem for me when I first found it on the VHS shelf 30 years ago. It is rarely showed a lot of love in the horror community and for that reason we are going to spend this podcast giving the horror 101 treatment to Waxwork.

It’s the party to end all parties!

APRIL FOOLS!! Welcome back to the Horror 101 podcast. This recording session was like nothing we’ve ever captured before. My crew hated the film we’re about to review. The vitriol and spite against me for suggesting this film is over the top. If you haven’t seen this film yet please watch it first cause there will be ending spoilers right out of the gate. Join us as we give the Horror 101 treatment to Fred Walton’s April Fool’s Day from 1986.

Horror 101 – Episode 107: Pontypool

Shutup or Die!

On this episode we are going to tip our hats to our homeland. In 2008 director Bruce McDonald gave us a low budget and very different take on the mass infection outbreak horror subgenre. As you may or may not know this show comes to you from Ontario Canada. And this little gem is set in a small Ontario town just a few hours drive from here. Now, a lot of movies are shot in Canada but not a whole lot are SET in Canada and with this being so close to home and the fact that we’ve received more than a few hints from our listers to cover it, we’ve decided to give the Horror 101 treatment to Pontypool.

Horror 101 – Episode 106: Intruder (1989)

He’s just CRAZY bout this store!

We’re going to start the year by focusing on a Scott Spiegel film from 1989. Now if that name sounds familiar its because Spiegel co-wrote Evil Dead 2 with Sam Raimi. This is a cheese filled slasher that came WAY late in the game. It is, essentially most of the crew that gave us Evil Dead 2 returning to give us an ultra low budget last hurrah of 80s gory goodness. We hope you enjoy as we give the Horror 101 treatment to Intruder
