Episode 21 – The House by the Cemetery…

Episode XXI – Read the fine print! You may have just mortgaged your LIFE! – May 29th, 2013

This show we are featuring an early 80s Italian gorefest called House by the Cemetery (1981) from director Lucio Fulci. When a family from New York moves into a quiet country house in Boston they begin to suspect there’s something not quite right about the property. Dr. Boyle has moved his family here for 6 months to continue the research of his predecessor who went mad and killed himself. Something in Oak Mansion is stirring. What lurks beneath the floorboards? And will the family be able to get out alive? The World Famous Brian Stewart has never seen a Fulci movie so it was about time to focus on the Italian Meistro of gore. House by the Cemetery is one of three films in the Fulci Death Trilogy (The City of the Living Dead and The Beyond being the other two). All of them were unrelated stories but they were most certainly bleak, violent and nasty horror flicks which all starred British actress Catriona MacColl. Come with us as we descend into the ultimate cellar of The House by the Cemetery. Listen to the horrible dubbing of Giovanni Frezza. Listen to the gurgling of blood pouring from mutilated bodies. It’s another podcast with soundtrack music accompaniment and audio clips of the scenes we discuss.

Episode 18 – The Changeling (1980)

Episode XVIII – The Changeling (1980) – Bouncing Balls and Wheelchairs!!! March 11th, 2013

Our 18th podcast features a terrifying Canadian haunted house movie. The Changeling (1980) stars George C. Scott and Trish Van Devere in the first film to pick up the Genie for Best Picture after the Canadian film awards were given that title. The Changeling represents everything done right with a ghost story. It is a perfect execution of haunted house and mystery. There’s no gore or nudity, making this a wholesome horror very much like the old Hammer Horrors or AIP Vincent Price Poe films. But the chills in this movie are so profound film makers are still paying homage to The Changeling in their works to this day. We make sure to NOT disclose any of the mystery in our podcast so NO SPOILERS on this one. The Changeling was based on a true story from the 1960s. We give you the REAL FACTS about the history on the grounds of Chessman Park, which is stranger and more morbid than the fiction it produced. Take it from us. When General Patton is afraid….you will be too!

Get ready for another dark Christmas show from your hosts at Horror 101. With the remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night fresh off the Blu-Ray press we decided to give credence to an 80s slasher film that created great controversy when it was first released. Parent groups picketed theatres demanding the movie be withdrawn back in 1984 and after two weeks of playing, it was yanked. But for what reason? Was the fact that a killer dressed as Santa was too heavy? Was it a moral sin to sully the sanctity of the holidays? We feel that the movie was more than just exploitation. There is a story here along with some fine gore. Join us as we explore the sensation that is Silent Night, Deadly Night and we’ll also view the remake starring Malcolm McDowell and compare the two.
